Terre di Pisa DOC wine region
Wine may not be the most immediate association that travelers make with Pisa’s surrounding areas. But the history goes back to the Etruscans, who almost 1,000 years BC started the viticulture in the area.
The Terre di Pisa wine region is located between sea and mountains, so there are different types of conditions for viticulture at different altitudes and different soils.
Today the area consists of forests, olive groves and farmland, where vineyards are interspersed in a beautiful and fine way that we recognize from the rest of Tuscany. The primary red grape varietals grown are Sangiovese, Canaiolo, Cabernet Sauvignon and Ciliegiolo, and Trebbiano, Vermentino and Malvasia for the whites.

Pieve de Pitti winery, nestled in the heart of Tuscany, offers a serene escape into the world of fine wines. With a history steeped in tradition, this family-owned estate is dedicated to producing high-quality wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region.
Wine maker Caterina Gargari was an architect before becoming a winemaker. Thus she spent several years, first supported by consultants, working in the vineyards studying the terroir, the soil, the climate and learning everything she could about growing grapes and making wine.
Caterina thrives for minimal intervention winemaking that promotes, rather than overshadows the work that is done in the vineyard. The vineyards are managed in a sustainable way - no pesticide, no chemical fertilizers, no herbicide - and harvest is always by hand. Pieve de’ Pitti wines are made to be enjoyed with good friends and good food. And at the end, the bottle must be empty.
